Rigid Boxes and How They Are Used
A Rigidbox is the ideal packaging solution for any product that needs to be protected
from outside influences, but will require a smooth and sturdy surface to
protect from bumps and jarring during shipping. Rigid boxes have been a
mainstay of commercial packaging for decades, but what are they and how do you
use them? Read on to find out!
Rigid box:
The Rigid box is an extremely versatile product. They tend to be made up of two
separate pieces - the top 'rigid' section, which has no side or bottom flaps,
and the 'die cut' section which has a slit at the top which allows a release of
air while preventing the solid part (the cardboard inside) from collapsing.
Rigid boxes are usually four times thicker than a typical folding carton and
therefore aren't usually printed onto directly. Instead, they're covered with
heavy paper which may be as simple or as luxurious as wanted.
There are
currently three main styles of rigid box packaging. These include the classic
style, the designer series, and the ultra-luxury styles. The classic style
features the same construction and look as the traditional rigid box, which
uses a heavy paper that is folded over to seal in the product. This is a good
choice for standard products such as DVD's and CDs, as the plastic used for the
packaging is sturdy and doesn't distort easily. However, this means the weight
of the product can greatly increase, and so isn't always the best option for
fragile items.
The
designer series features a sleeker design, with plenty of space between the
sides of the lid and the top of the lid. This results in the lid being able to
fold up completely, leaving the product free to be boxed and shipped. Due to
the way the lid is designed, the products that it covers are more likely to
suffer damage during shipping, but this style offers the convenience of having
a lid that locks to ensure the safety of your goods. The ultra luxury boxes
offer the most space and can also be fully customized with your choice of color
and texture. The products that this style can be used for are endless, ranging
from DVD's, CD's and even jewelry.
All of
these different styles have one thing in common, and that is the ability to
store items into the box without damaging the contents. This is done through
the use of folding Magnetic Flaps. Magnetic flaps are made out of an extremely
strong yet lightweight metal. When placed around the edge of the lid, they make
it impossible for the item inside to fall out due to the force of gravity. This
is achieved through the use of a series of small magnetic fields which flip the
lid open, allowing the stored item to be placed inside.
The next
style of rigid box packaging, which is the most popular, is the soft box. This
is a smaller version of the luxury rigid box, which is much like a hard sided
book case, and comes in many sizes. Because it is a smaller box, it is easier
to ship than a hard sided box, and because it is easier to seal it is also
cheaper to ship. This type of box is often used in gift wrapping, and many
people even use it for their own private items such as photos and DVD's.
Another advantage to this type of packaging is the fact that it looks just as
professional as any other type of box.
There are
a number of manufacturers that make luxury rigid boxes. One of the most popular
brands for both personal and business uses is Contour, who has a large range of
both personal and business products. If you are looking for a very specific
set-up, then you may want to visit a company such as Fin Packaging. They are able
to design any type of rigid packaging, and will help you create a custom set-up
to meet your exact requirements.
One other
thing that can make a difference to how your box looks, is the lids on it.
Although there are a number of different lid styles available, the most common
are the traditional vented lids, which are very attractive, and which can also
be sealed shut with a simple press of a button. The most popular option however
is the self-sealing lid, which simply pushes shut on its own, to keep out dust
and air. These lids make the box extremely practical and ensure that it meets
all of the customs regulations for importing the item.
